GPSC AE is a critical exam for candidates who want to work as Assistant Engineer in Gujarat. But to appear for the GPSC AE exam, one must meet the eligibility criteria. The eligibility criteria include nationality, age limit, educational qualification, and a few other criteria. Therefore, it is prudent to know about the GPSC AE eligibility criteria before filling the application form.

  • Age Limit

The basic requirement for age is 35 years and less; however, age relaxations are available for special categories as directed by the Indian government. Anyone who falls under more than one category will be provided with only one age relaxation benefit. Also, the age limit is decided based on the high school certificate.

  • The candidate must be 20-35 years of age.
  • Candidates belonging to SC/ST/EWS/SEBC categories will get additional 5 years of relaxation.
  • Women candidates belonging to SC/ST/EWS/SEBC categories will get additional 10 years of relaxation.
  • Serviceman candidates can apply for the GPSC AE exam up to 45 years of age (length of service + three years).
  • Someone who is physically disabled will get 10 years of relaxation.
  • Education Qualification

Interested candidates appearing for GPSC AE must have a bachelor’s degree in either Mechanical or Civil engineering. A recognized university must recognize the degree. Candidates should also have a basic understanding and knowledge of computers. Also, the candidates should know both Hindi and Gujarati languages.

  • Physical Standards

Apart from age and educational requirements, a candidate must also meet the physical standards set by GPSC and must qualify for this requirement. A candidate appearing for GPSC AE must have excellent and stable mental health. The candidate’s physical health must be good and free from health issues that can hamper the performance after becoming an AE.

GPSC AE has some reservations for physically disabled candidates, as you can see in the age limit section. A person appearing under the PD category will be eligible to apply in this category if he/she has 40-100% disability. Anyone lesser than 40-100% can’t apply under the PD category. The candidate has to satisfy the Medical Board; in case of failure, the candidature will be dismissed.

The candidate must be a citizen of India, the subject of Nepal or Bhutan, an Indian origin person from Vietnam, the United Republic of Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Bangladesh, and Pakistan, and a Tibetan refugee who has migrated to India before 1st January 1962. If a candidate meets the nationality requirement, they are eligible to apply for the GPSC AE exam.
